This costume was both a dream and a nightmare. I had never made anything like this before, so it was an interesting challenge. I'll work my way up the costume to explain it's construction. Original length was ten paragraphs or more.
The boots were interesting. The shoe part is a heeled Mary Jane covered with several layers of craft foam that are hot glued and duck taped into place. What isn't covered in foam is recovered in velvet. The shaft is a simple tube with pouches filled with foam to give form and stability. Same applies to the spines.
The codpiece and wrap are all one piece. As a base I made a sort of pair of "shorts", and the codpiece is a pouch with some slight padding for the male essence. It has beadwork down the centre. The wrap is broadcloth and doubled, with the ribbon liquid-stitched on. The ribbon design is done using Copics. The straps are more stretch velvet filled with either elastics or foam for shape and hold. Buckles are all foam. Large purple ones are foam with velvet and ribbon. There was a fair amount of hand-sewing.
The shirt was my own pattern, made to match with the design out of heavy satin.
The jacket was the hardest part.Using Simplicy # 5386 I used the front panels and combined them into one to make the front and back shapes. The back piece in the centre is of my own pattern. Collar is also my own pattern and is filled with foam to make it stand up. The white part is broadcloth and done using Simplicity #4940. Shoulders were my own pattern and are stuffed with fiber-fil. The armour on top is matte satin sewn in layered circles. Armour and shoulders were sewn by hand. Silver bands are more matte satin with foam inside and hand sewn. The neck armour is foam, velvet and ribbon.
The gloves and bracelets are velvet. There's elastics in the bracelets, and the buckles are foam. The ribbon on the glovelets is hand sewn, and the whole things are my own pattern. Gold bracelets are ones I bought at Ardene and added wire to.
Wig was bought off of eBay and I took a purple Sharpie marker to the end for colour, and also used Copics. Feather is held in using wire sewn underneath.
