Cost to make: $45
The tunic, dress, and sleevelets are all made out of canvas in an olive green.
The tunic was made from a pattern that I made myself. I'm very happy with how it turned out. I only hemmed the bottom. The top of the tunic is pulled together to create a unique effect. To prevent fraying along the neckline I used a zig-zag stitch which also added decoration. The arm holes have a fancy stitch and were cut to make it a little more Victorian.
The skirt is all gathered around the waistband. Originally when I sewed it together, it was down to my ankles, but then I cut it to shape and sewed up the edges to create a clean hem and used the zig-zag.
The sleevelets are simply tubes. To keep them secure, I took elastic bands and wrapped gold spandex around them to create the armbands.
All embroidery designs are done with my sewing machine. They aren't fancy, but they add something to my Faery.
All beadwork is done by hand.
The wings are made out of foamboard from the dollarstore and painted three different shades of green. I made cogs and gears out of craft foam and glued them to the wings after all the designs and colours were to my satisfaction. The harness is made with a scrap piece of foamboard painted to match the wings and have green straps that go UNDER the shirt.
The cincher is made out of an old weave fabric and is a custom pattern. In the back I was originally going to have a zipper, but though it would look like crap after all my hardwork. So, I put in grommets and laced suede cord through so it would be tied in the back and give a proper finish.
I use my steampunk boots with this - of course. And my steampunk goggles that I bought for $20, but not for this costume.
As I hate not having anything to hold when I'm in a costume, I decided I needed a prop THE WEEK BEFORE FAERY FEST!!!!! I bought a toy gun and modified it by hot gluing a cardboard tube on the end elongate the barrel. It was repainted to brown with aging and the 3D details are hot glue painted gold.
